Dublin-Indian-origin leader Leo Varadkar was elected as Ireland's new Taioseach on Wednesday, becoming the youngest and first openly gay Prime Minister in the majority-Catholic country.
The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi has congratulated H. E. Mr. Leo Varadkar on assuming office as Taoiseach of Ireland.
Describing how a young Leo was always interested in politics, his uncle, Avinash Varadkar, told ANI that once when he visited Leo's family in Ireland back in 1998, even then as a child, Leo talked about politics.
Born on January 18, 1979 in Dublin, Varadkar is the youngest child and only son of an Indian immigrant father and an Irish mother.
"On a personal note, I would like to add, were it not for Enda Kenny I have no doubt I would not be standing here in this seat today".
"It has always been the view of the party that we don't want to see Britain being punished" for voting to leave the European Union, he said on June 2.
Varadkar will form a Fine Gael-led minority government with independent TDs.
Shraddha Kapoor Hassena Parkar Movie Teaser Released - Queen Of Mumbai
Earlier posters of the film showed us a burqa-clad Shraddha amidst a crowd, with only her fierce, kohl-lined eyes visible. The movie tells the story of Haseena Parkar , the sister of Dawood Ibrahim and how she became the Godmother for many.
"It's not something that defines me".
Not only has he become the country's first gay Taoiseach. Enda Kenny left an administration with five women around the cabinet table; Varadkar's has only four.
Mr Eastwood said: "On behalf of myself and my party, I wish to extend warm congratulations to the new Taoiseach Leo Varadkar. The government I lead will be one of the new European center as we seek to build a republic of opportunity".
Mr Kenny announced last month he was stepping down after 15 years leading Fine Gael and six years as Taoiseach.
Mr Kenny had not just made his political career possible, he said, but in bringing in marriage equality he had also made him an equal citizen.
Once nominated, Mr Varadkar will travel to Aras an Uachtarain (President's residence) to meet President Michael D. Higgins who will give him the seal of office.
Varadkar, the former health, tourism and social protection minister, will, however, face scrutiny of his policies at home with opponents warning that he would nudge the party further to the right.
