Mueller has requested interviews with senior intelligence officials about their conversations with Trump in an effort to investigate possible obstruction of justice, a former senior intelligence official with knowledge of the discussions confirmed to NBC News. Trump was drawn into the official investigation because of his firing of James Comey, an event the special counsel will now investigate.
Comey also said Trump repeatedly sought assurances that he wasn't a target of the Russian Federation investigation.
Last week, former FBI Director James Comey told Congress he believes he was sacked by Trump to undermine the agency's Russian Federation probe.
Both men refused the president's request, the Post said.
The NSA said in a statement that it will "fully cooperate with the special counsel" and declined to comment further.
Mueller is already in possession of the memos written by the former Federal Bureau of Investigation director, who documented each of his interactions with the President.
