The paceman bowled just two overs at the start of hosts England s eight-wicket opening win over Bangladesh at the Oval on Thursday before suffering a side strain that has ruled him out of the rest of a tournament featuring the world s top eight one-day worldwide teams.

The Warwickshire all-rounder bowled just two overs in Thursday's (1 June) opening eight-wicket win over Bangladesh at The Oval before leaving the field in discomfort.

England started their Champions Trophy campaign with a resounding victory but are bracing themselves for confirmation they will lose Chris Woakes to injury for the remainder of the tournament.

"Side strains are a big confidence thing, aren't they?"

Woakes sat out the second and third One-Day Internationals in the recent series against South Africa but Morgan insisted he was 100 per cent fit ahead of England's ICC Champions Trophy opener. Chasing 306 to win, English batsmen made mockery of the Bangladesh bowling attack, strolling to the target just for the loss of 2 wickets and with more than 15 balls to spare.

Liam Plunkett (four for 59) was England's banker with the ball here, after Woakes left the field having bowled only two overs, but a longer-term replacement may well be required over the next two-and-a-half weeks.

Mr Trump later contradicted his own staff, saying on 11 May he had the Russian Federation issue in mind when he fired Mr Comey . After Comey's firing, the administration gave differing reasons for his dismissal.

Woakes came off the field following his second over and did not re-appear, and he admits he knew nearly immediately that the problem was likely to end his role in the Champions Trophy.

"There was absolutely nothing", said Morgan after Thursday's match.

"He's been very impressive for us over the last couple of years, a mainstay, and a very reliable guy".

"Yes, I think so", Morgan said.

"At one stage, Bangladesh looked like they were getting 330, and to peg it back from there I thought was a credit to (the bowlers)", he said. You can get out in that sort of fashion when you're short on runs.

England were already likely to drop a pace bowler to make way for leg-spinner Adil Rashid, so Woakes' absence probably means a three-way fight between Jake Ball, David Wiley and whoever is called into the squad.
