Even if we assume "covfefe" was a typo and the president meant to type "coverage", it remains a mystery what the tweet refers to.

So how did it happen?

"Despite the constant negative press covfefe" Trump tweeted at 12:06am ET on Wednesday.

There were few serious tweets in response to the mysterious "covfefe", but there did appear to be some concern about his well-being, given the silence after that tweet. When asked in the past about other Trump tweets, White House spokesman Sean Spicer has said the posts speak for themselves.

And that was it for almost six hours before the unfinished tweet was removed from the president's account.

According to a press release issued by the club, patrons who come in and use the code word "Covfefe" will get 20 percent off of their orders when they utter the phrase to their servers.

US President Donald Trump has proved he has not lost his sense of humour in office, challenging his audience to figure out what on earth "covfefe" means after his tweet sparked an Internet firestorm. Air France U.K. tweeted, "Breaking Our newest destination is sunny #Covfefe!". Silicon Valley executive Andrew Crow went as far to change his last name on Twitter to "Covfefe".

After all, Trump did once say he had "the best words".
