Portugal defender Pepe confirmed that he has had offers from Premier League clubs after announcing he will leave Real Madrid when his contract expires this summer.
According to Spanish radio station COPE, the 18-year-old Italian sensation - dubbed the new Gigi Buffon - has become Real's new preferred goalkeeper target.
De Gea has always been the front-runner to replace Keylor Navas as the club's first choice keeper, with a deal previously breaking down in 2015, and Red Devils boss Jose Mourinho now said to be open to allowing the Spaniard to leave.
Pepe has slipped behind both Raphael Varane and Nacho in the battle to play alongside captain Sergio Ramos in the Madrid defence, and a parting of the ways had looked likely throughout the season as his contract ticked down.
Pepe won three LaLiga titles with Madrid and a hat-trick of Champions League winners' medals.
"I took the decision in January, when things weren't going well". He stressed, "The club didn't defend me with the tax office issue. I'm happy for the love of the people, and that's worth more than everything".

It won't help the hundreds of thousands of kids like mine who were part of the generation who went through school under B.C. There are no guarantees Horgan can succeed, even with the support of Green Leader Andrew Weaver and his two fellow MLAs.
He has been linked with a move to Paris Saint-Germain, while rumours of a Premier League switch also abound, but on Tuesday the Portugal global was in the mood for nostalgia.
"Real Madrid did not offer me a renewal of two seasons".
He added: "It's quite clear that I won't be continuing at Real Madrid".
"There are more offers, also from England", Pepe said, when asked about rumoured interest from PSG and Inter.
Real Madrid have shortlisted AC Milan shot-stopper Gianluigi Donnarumma as a possible replacement for Keylor Navas, but Los Blancos are keeping faith with the Central American for now and have also ended their interested in signing Manchester United's David De Gea.
"I haven't signed anything with another club".
