Two women and one man died and several others were injured Wednesday after a Jeep suddenly accelerated and struck several people at an auto auction in MA.
Speaking to WCVB-TV, auction employee Woody Tuttle said that people were standing between the cars on auction when the Jeep lurched forward.
A witness told WCVB-TV that cars were lined up on the auction block when one vehicle suddenly accelerated.
Massachusetts State Police say there is no evidence that Wednesday morning's crash inside the LynnWay Auto Auction in Billerica (bill-RICK'-uh) was intentional.
"Preliminary information we have suggests that this is a tragic accident", Ryan said Wednesday afternoon, adding that it was "early in the investigation".
This is a developing story.
"We heard a bang from where we just came from", Kyazze said.
Randy Miller, who was attending the auction, said it appeared the Jeep was traveling about 40 miles per hour.
NHL Playoffs: Predators edge past Blues 2-1
Louis Mayor Lyda Krewson agreed to the bet shortly before the Predators beat the Blues 3-1 on Sunday to take a 2-1 series lead. Louis on a five game winning streak, the longest of their season and it couldn't have come at a better time as in post-season.
"He went through the door, went through the lane of people, and then through the building. He was going fast, he was going really fast", the witness said.
State police investigators were working to reconstruct the accident, which happened while several hundred people were in the building. Those who attend these types of auctions state there is nothing preventing vehicles from hitting people. Ambulances from several surrounding towns responded. So many people are hurt. Wednesday's auction was scheduled to start at 8:40 a.m., according to the company's website.
A 55-year-old man who also was struck remained hospitalized yesterday with serious injuries, authorities said, while seven other men and one woman who had been treated at area hospitals were released.
Only auction employees are allowed to drive vehicles on the auction site.
In October 2015, a crash at a Framingham auto auction injured seven people.
It is thought the vehicle was driven between two lanes of cars in the auction building, but that people were standing in between the lanes of cars.
The crash took place at the Lynnway Auto Auction, where a vehicle slammed into an exterior wall around 10:15 a.m., roughly 90 minutes after an auction was scheduled to begin.
