Since the launch of the original Echo, Amazon has aggressively expanded its Alexa partnerships to end up with thousands of so-called "skills".

Amazon unveiled the Echo Show Tuesday, a $229 smart speaker powered by the Alexa virtual assistant with a 7-inch touchscreen, making it the first Amazon Echo of its kind. The slew of different Echos, and gadgets outside of Amazon with Alexa built-in, are giving consumers numerous different options and functionalities so they can find the right Alexa device for them. Simply tell Alexa which contact to call, and their Alexa-powered device will ring.

"Make hands-free video calls to friends and family who have an Echo Show or the Alexa App, and make voice calls to anyone who has an Echo or Echo Dot", the digital powerhouse said. If you compare that to the standard Echo, though, the price is not a huge jump.

Then, we have the voice messaging feature. When they show up, you can listen and reply to by voice. It features a screen that Amazon says provides visibility across a room for images that accompany Alexa's voice responses.

Aaron Hernandez murder conviction thrown out by judge
Hernandez's lead attorney in the double murder trial, Jose Baez, has pledged to independently investigate the death. Hernandez left behind three notes, and in one note, Bomberg said, Hernandez indicated he knew about abatement.

It's not clear if third-party Alexa devices will be included in the voice calling and messaging network.

After extensive leaks, Amazon officially announced the latest Echo device today, the Echo Show. Alexa Calling is available on these existing devices effective immediately, allowing users to call each other other leave messages for another.

Google introduced its smart speaker, called Google Home, in mid-2016. Kuo also said the Siri speaker will cost more than the Amazon Echo, will support AirPlay and will have a performance similar to the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6S. The cylindrical speaker uses your Wi-Fi network to connect to the Internet and tap into Amazon's universe of services. Messages can also be read within the Alexa app. Whether or not the device is aesthetically pleasing will ultimately come down to personal preference but there's no denying that adding a display and video capabilities to Echo feels like a natural progression of the product line. Google Home is far behind with 23.8% market share.
