The rabbit belonged to an ancient breed of continental giant.
Workers found Simon, the 10 month old, three-foot long rabbit, in the cargo section of a Boeing 767 at Chicago's O'Hare airport, reports Fox News.
On April 19, Simon first traveled from Edwards' countryside home to London Heathrow International Airport.
Rabbits are prone to dying unexpectedly under situations with high stress, and being in the cargo hold of a plane would certainly be considered stressful.
United Airlines confirmed in an email to The Washington Post that Simon had died, writing: "The rabbit has passed away, but the details surrounding that are being reviewed".
A giant rabbit died while transferred by a Boeing 767 of United Airlines from London to Chicago, a new blow to the reputation of the USA airline.
When contacted by the BBC, United issued a statement expressing sadness over the animal's passing.
The incident sparked a national conversation about USA airlines' treatment of customers, in an industry comprising just a handful of competitors following years of mergers and consolidations. "We are reviewing this matter", United added.
Edwards' website says her rabbits are sold throughout the world and receive a "full health examination" by a veterinarian to ensure they can fly on an airplane. They're more like dogs, so you have to have the right facilities for them.

One of these surprises that has been previously revealed is that Quill will finally meet his father, played by Kurt Russell . There's too much going on here, but this mostly works well anyway, and the actors are having as much fun as the audience.
The bunny, who was being flown to his new owner, was destined to become the world's largest rabbit. His father, Darius, holds the world record for the longest rabbit at 4 feet, 4 inches long and weighs a reported 50 pounds.
United Kingdom media reported that the 10-month-old giant bunny was being delivered to a celebrity owner.
Munoz, who took the helm at United in 2015 as part of an effort to improve customer relations, has faced calls to step down after referring to Dao as "disruptive and belligerent" in a statement following the incident.
Edward claimed that Simon was in ideal condition and that he had passed the medical examinations three hours before boarding the aircraft. I was going to keep Simon but because I've got such a good relationship with the buyer I knew he's going to have a good home so I was prepared to let Simon go.
He said a pen had been built for Simon. "He's upset", she said. Edwards was sending Simon to a buyer in the USA, who, she said, was famous, and, now, "upset".
It comes just days after reports, which went viral, emerged of an incident at the airport in Chicago, involving United.
What caused Simon to die during the flight has yet to be determined. He was bred by a woman in the United Kingdom and sold to a "celebrity" in the United States.
The airline has been under intense scrutiny after several controversial incidents.
David Dao, a 69-year-old Asian American doctor who was on his way to meet his patients, was dragged off from a United Airlines flight earlier this month.
