A nostalgic, retro soundtrack playing over some slow-mo action of galaxy creatures shooting lasers and the odd 1980s pop culture reference was the formula established in the first film and stuck to for dear life in the second. One of these surprises that has been previously revealed is that Quill will finally meet his father, played by Kurt Russell. It will feature the original guardians including Chris Pratt (Star-Lord, ) Zoe Saldana (Gamora), Vin Diesel (Groot), Dave Bautista (Drax) and Bradley Cooper (Rocket Raccoon).

If you like your superheroes dark and moddy, go watch a DC movie. Just in time for the premiere of "Guardians of the Galaxy 2" in theaters, an attraction based off the franchise will open soon at Disneyland California.

About Marvel EntertainmentMarvel Entertainment, LLC, a wholly-owned subsidiary of The Walt Disney Company, is one of the world's most prominent character-based entertainment companies, built on a proven library of more than 8,000 characters featured in a variety of media over seventy years. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 does the same thing. And while the main villain's ultimate plan is universal domination (isn't it always?), the culmination and aftermath of that story feels like it's something these characters could still be talking about and dealing with in movies to come, unlike Ronan and many other throwaway MCU baddies. The same goes for the creation of The Avengers, which Marvel tested out first with the introduction of Iron Man before they included Thor, Hulk and so on.

There's too much going on here, but this mostly works well anyway, and the actors are having as much fun as the audience.

Director James Gunn supplies more impressive visuals and the way he juxtaposes state-of-the- art CGI with classic dad-rock bangers remains strangely entertaining.
