The same goes for the creation of The Avengers, which Marvel tested out first with the introduction of Iron Man before they included Thor, Hulk and so on.
There's too much going on here, but this mostly works well anyway, and the actors are having as much fun as the audience.
Director James Gunn supplies more impressive visuals and the way he juxtaposes state-of-the- art CGI with classic dad-rock bangers remains strangely entertaining.
