He was born into a farming family in Bonaire, Georgia, and his career spanned stints as a farmer, agribusinessman, veterinarian, state legislator and governor of Georgia.
Perdue will take office as farm prices have been down for several years in a row, and some in the industry are looking for policy fixes to help revive the market.

Perdue is slated to be sworn in during a short ceremony at the Supreme Court early Tuesday morning and later speak with department employees before participating in a farmer roundtable and executive order signing with Trump.
