(Fred Thornhill/The Canadian Press via AP) Home plate umpire Dale Scott is attended to on the field in the eighth inning after he was hit by a foul tip during a baseball game between the Toronto Blue Jays and the Baltimore Orioles in Toronto on Friday April 14, 2017.

That sucked the air out of the crowd of 40,743, before Morales sent them home happy with his second homer of the year.

But shortly after Donaldson rounded first, he pulled up lame, hobbling to second. He also popped a blister on his pitching hand late in spring training, despite a light spring after pitching more than 200 innings through the regular season and the playoffs in 2016.

The Baltimore Orioles will look to bounce back after having their 3-game winning streak snapped in walk-off fashion, by a final score of 2-1.

Depending on what the medical report says, it would be a surprise if Donaldson returns to the lineup any time soon, given his lingering issues.

He was used only as a pinch hitter on Tuesday and started Wednesday and Thursday as designated hitter.

With an off-day today, the Blue Jays could logically skip Sanchez's scheduled start on April 20th, keeping the need for Sanchez on the roster at bay until April 22nd against the Anaheim Angels.

Starters Francisco Liriano (0-1) and Kevin Gausman (1-0) both had fine outings, with Toronto's Liriano bouncing back from a disastrous opening start in Tampa that left his earned-run average at 135.00.

The Jays hurler retired the first seven batters he faced then settled into a nice rhythm before exiting after 6.2 innings. He had allowed seven runs on 14 hits through 11.2 innings prior to weekend showdown with the rival Orioles. He brings a lot of energy and he does damage.

The resignations have already received the approval of President Ashraf Ghani, according to another tweet. Mattis's visit to Afghanistan follows meetings in Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Israel, Qatar and Djibouti.

Jonathan Schoop (solo) and J.J. Hardy (two-run) each had fifth-inning blasts and in the sixth, Chris Davis launched a rocket deep over the centre-field fence.

Mancini connected twice for the second time in three games. When things go wrong, there is a tendency to imagine a situation as bleaker than it actually is. "If I don't feel at my best you're not going to get the best of me". However, they have started their campaign with a franchise-worst 1-8 record.

Four of Toronto's eight defeats have been one-run decisions, and only one has been by more than two runs.

The "it's early" refrain will soon be dismissed, especially if it continues over the remainder of the home stand that includes three more against the Orioles and three against the Red Sox.

The Jays are suddenly a distant fifth and last in the AL East, and now a stunning 5 1/2 games behind the O's.

It seems as though the Orioles never miss an opportunity to get under the skin of Toronto fans and were at it again.

Roberto Osuna, one of the better relievers in the American League, hit the disabled list after two appearances and now the club is going with Smith and Jason Grilli with the game on the line. It was a cheeky bit of business considering that Baltimore is hardly a hockey town (with apologies to old Skipjack fans).

"That one didn't sound good", Baltimore manager Buck Showalter said.

The Jays Twitter folk got in on the "fun" as well, posting a picture of Marcus Stroman, Pearce and Joe Biagini in Leafs garb.
