Malcolm Butler signs tender with Pats; can now be traded

Malcolm Butler will remain a member of the New England Patriots.

The former Super Bowl hero cornerback has signed his first-round RFA tender with the New England Patriots, per Field Yates of ESPN. The tender was at the first-round level and carries a salary of $3.91 million for the 2017 season.

Another scenario is holding on to Butler for this season and pairing him with Gilmore in what would be one of the NFL's better 1-2 combinations.

The Patriots may soon find themselves back in the cornerback market even after adding free-agent cover man Stephon Gilmore this offseason. The deadline for this to happen would have been Friday. Surely, the Pats would receive more than a late third-round pick in a trade for Butler.

In that first game, Bradley only pulled in two boards but was second on the team with an average of 6.1 - he's not even 6-3. The Bulls answered several runs by the Celtics in the second half when they had closed to within single-digit deficits.

Should New England keep Butler, it will have one of the top cornerback duos in the National Football League with Gilmore on the opposite side.

The Bills have until early next week to match the offer or settle for acquiring New England's fifth-round draft pick as compensation. Gillislee had 577 yards rushing and scored nine touchdowns as LeSean McCoy's primary backup last season.

Last month, Buffalo retained offensive lineman Ryan Groy by matching the offer sheet he signed with the Los Angeles Rams.
