Anaheim Ducks' Ryan Getzlaf, left, shoots under the defense by Calgary Flames' Matt Bartkowski during the second period in Game 1 of a first-round NHL hockey Stanley Cup playoff series Thursday, April 13, 2017, in Anaheim, Calif. One big name in particular is rookie goalie Matt Murray, who's been Head Coach Mike Sullivan's go-to guy since the beginning of the season, and the Game 1 starter that never was.
ST. PAUL, Minn. - Joel Edmundson scored for St. Louis at 17:48 of overtime, Jake Allen made a career-high 51 saves and the Blues sneaked into Minnesota to steal Game 1 of their first-round series from the Wild with a 2-1 victory on Wednesday.
The Columbus Blue Jackets look to steal game two and tie up this series before heading home for game three.
What will decide Friday night's game?
A Pittsburgh man was stabbed in the head with a screwdriver during Game 1 of the Penguins first round playoff series against the Blue Jackets. Part of that is based upon the Blue Jackets' lack of postseason experience compared to the much more seasoned Penguins, but what the young players are showing in their debuts should have Blue Jackets fans excited about the future of the team.
The Blue Jackets outshot the Penguins, 16-3, in the first 20 minutes of play, but Pittsburgh responded well in the second period and put three pucks into the back of the net of Sergei Bobrovsky, a likely candidate for the Vezina Trophy. The Penguins now lead the best-of-seven series 2-0.
"We're going to have to find a way to get in on the inside and bang away and create more offense", Blue Jackets head coach John Tortorella said.
Has White House experience tempered Donald Trump?
In doing so, Trump is departing from some of the radical changes he promised, and moving toward the positions of his predecessors. Its attempts to regain relevance by, for instance, acting as the UN's military agent in Afghanistan, were unsuccessful.
"When they're in that offensive zone, they're as unsafe an offensive line as there is in the game for me", Sullivan said.
For nearly the entirety of the first period, the Blue Jackets looked like easily the better of the two teams. But for the sake of the Pens, they need to pray that he's out for a game or two.
"We're looking at it as we didn't play our best game", Trotz said Friday. "They surged, and we kind of hung on there".
Hockey fans can be similarly dogged with their craniofacial injuries, especially when it's Stanley Cup playoff time. And all of that is despite the fact that the Penguins have actually managed to keep more shots to the outside when Fleury's been the starting netminder. We love that guy. One of the greatest things about our game is its instinctive play.
Toronto is expected to be without injured defenseman Nikita Zaitsev again because of an upper-body injury.
Phil Kessel had a goal and an assist for Pittsburgh. Scored a goal, too.
