Gambling Times reporter Graeme Bailey is claiming that he has been told the Arsenal manager is interested in signing the England centre-halves in the transfer window.

The Swede is on the brink of signing for the Reds after travelling to Carrington for a medical today ahead of a proposed £30 million switch from Benfica.

"I am thrilled to be joining Manchester United", said the defender, who is a superb reader of the game, strong in the tackle and able to pass the ball when he wins possession.

Manchester United are ready to listen to offers for defender Chris Smalling.

Victor Lindelof's move to Manchester United from Benfica will be a success, according to his Sweden team-mate Sebastian Larsson.

"No matter who they are, how old they are, they're going to take some time in settling down into our sort of football".

Smalling joined Manchester United from Fulham and has made almost 250 appearances in his time at Old Trafford.

Lindelof has been a long-term target for Mourinho and could be one of three or four high profile signings at United this summer, as they prepare for a 2017/18 campaign in which they will return to the Champions League.

"In the way we play at Old Trafford, how we dominate our opponents, the way we play in the area, I think Chicharito could score 20 goals easily", he explained.

Mourinho is keen to have his squad in place before pre-season starts in July and is closing in on a big-money deal for Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata.

The Scandinavians top a World Cup qualifying group containing France and Holland thanks to a dynamic young team marshalled in defence by Lindelof and propelled forward by another rising Swedish star, Emil Forsberg of RB Leipzig. The Sweden worldwide won't go charging into challenges to deter opponents and win the ball back for his side, but rather use his exceptional positional sense to ensure attackers don't get the better of him.
