Correia has been charged with participating in a scheme to use foreign money to build political support for a fledgling recreational marijuana business in Nevada and other states, according to an indictment unsealed last week that also charged Lev Parnas and Igor Fruman with making false statements to election regulators and conspiracy.

Earlier this month, Ukraine's former president had said that he discussed investments with President Donald Trump's attorney, Rudy Giuliani, in 2017, but that he never discussed Ukrainian companies with any U.S. official.

The House Intelligence committee wants both men to testify about their work with Giuliani in Ukraine as part of its impeachment probe into Trump's interactions with Ukraine.

Giuliani told CNN on Monday that he was unsure if prosecutors were looking into his work with the mayor of Kharkiv, with whom he had met on a December 2017 trip as part of his global consulting business.

The former aide who previously served as a senior director for Russian and Eurasian affairs, Fiona Hill, testified to House Democrats on Monday that Bolton instructed her to tell the National Security Council's chief lawyer that Giuliani and acting White House chief of staff Mick Mulvaney were carrying out an operation with serious legal implications, The Times reported.

Giuliani maintains the money was from a domestic source.

Parnas and Furman, who had been helping Giuliani investigate Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden, were arrested a week ago at Dulles International Airport outside of Washington, D.C., where they had one-way tickets on a flight out of the country, officials said.
