Young Texas couple die from unidentified illness in Fiji

The family said that the healthy and active couple came down with a mysterious illness.

Calanag said he wanted the CDC to confirm how they perished and "tell Americans and other people that these are the issues you're going to face if you have to travel to Fiji".

David Paul, an Air Force veteran, and his wife Michelle had a 2-year-old son in Fort Worth.

It appears that Michelle Paul died first and that David Paul passed away before he was able to be transported to Australia for further treatment.

In an attempt to find Zooey, Calanog said she called numerous local dog kennels and posted about her on social media until she was successful in reuniting with the pup.

Fiji's Health Minister Dr Ifereimi Waqainabete confirmed authorities are still working to determine the cause of death and he can not release anymore information.

It's believed the couple from Fort Worth had been planning their "amazing vacation" to Fiji for quite some time, leaving behind their two-year-old son and a daughter from David Paul's previous relationship with family in the USA for the two week trip. "I've never seen a community like Fort Worth come together for complete strangers to help find a family member".

The State Department spokesperson told ABC News it was monitoring the local investigation.

The U.S. Embassy in Fiji would not comment on the deaths but confirmed the Fijian government had issued a warning about a risky flu season that was affecting the region.

Even if the remains are cremated the family will have something to remember them by.

The U.S. Embassy in Fiji said in a statement it had been working closely with the Fiji government, police and health officials for more than a week to investigate the deaths.
