Louis Tomlinson talks life after One Direction in candid new interview

He said that when he was with One Direction, he was "forgettable, to a certain degree". When asked how she helped, he said simply, "Sometimes my reservation, or my confidence, might have prevented me from doing something". And he's fearless. There are times I've thought: 'I'd have a bit of that'.

You know I didn't sing a single solo on the X Factor, ' Louis admitted. The "Just Hold On" singer was very close to Johannah Deakin - who died of leukaemia last December - and though it was a "bizarre" thing to do, she was the first person he confided in when he had sex for the first time.

In fact, Tomlinson goes so far as to disparage himself as "the kid wearing espadrilles, stood in the back" while singing "a lower harmony that you can't really hear in the mix". He's the most lovely guy in the world. But he has a fantastic voice and for him it was always about owning that. And I've needed a mum in the past to kick me up the a**e and go: "'You're doing it'".

Yet, Louis Tomlinson, 25, has revealed he suffered from crippling insecurity as he tried to find his place in the band, often measuring himself against his bandmates - Niall Horan, Harry Styles, Liam Payne and Zayn Malik - while he came to terms with life in the spotlight. "And then there's me", he concluded.

Louis adds, "It wasn't necessarily a nice conversation".

It was only in the past few years, he says, that he really began to feel he was coming into his own within 1D. Then, in 2015, the group announced their indefinite hiatus.

Now, Tomlinson's first major cover story since the 1D hiatus has dropped, and loads of real talk came with it regarding One Direction and how it's affected him as they rose to global superstardom before pressing the pause button in a big way.

"Although my problems might look a hell of a lot different they're actually, fundamentally, the same".

He told the newspaper: "A lot of people can take the p**s out of that". And I feel like I have to push that constantly. The whole interview is a doozy, and it makes for an important - if not devastating - read. We can not wait to hear his new album, (luckily, he just announced a new single, "Back To You", that should be coming soon) and see what he does next!
