Microsoft updates break AV software, again!

Microsoft has finally begun the rollout of the Windows 10 May 2019 update - the next major build of Windows 10 - via the stable channel. Once the update appears, you can select Download and install now. You'll also be upgrading your skills to match the faster pace of as-a-service IT, enabling you to bring more value to the business by taking advantage of the latest features and capabilities.

Housekeeping out of the way, applying the May 2019 update could be as easy as heading to Settings Update & Security Windows Update and selecting Check for updates. To have that process break in a manner that requires the end user to hie off in favor of another level of troubleshooting in order to restore the proper function of Microsoft's built-in system fix tool is embarrassing at best.

You can minimize the program and leave it running in the background.

The solution to this problem can be found here, but the short version is that you need to enter the Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE), possibly by restarting twice.

Go to Update & Security Windows Update.

Jason Pierre-Paul led the team with 12.5 sacks but he likely won't see much of the field-if he does at all-in 2019. In 2018, Suh didn't get many opportunities to be himself, a pass-rushing specialist at defensive tackle.

Windows Update queries Microsoft's servers for updates.

Will Dormann, a vulnerability analyst at the CERT Coordination Center, part of the USA government-funded Software Engineering Institute, confirmed the exploit works against a fully patched and up-to-date version of Windows 10, 32 and 64-bit, as well as Windows Server 2016 and 2019. This is part of Microsoft's attempt to make Windows Update less surprising: feature updates are offered separately from regular updates, because feature updates take a long time to install and regular updates don't (or at least, shouldn't).

If you haven't kept up with your updates, be aware that there is a deadline. In its blog, Microsoft wrote " For Windows 10 devices that are at, or within several months of reaching the end of service, Windows Update will automatically initiate a feature update.

"In this situation, Windows restores the catalog files and stages the driver.sys files to be restored when the computer restarts". In any case, our advice holds: Pick a day to process the updates, and schedule them for a time where your PC will run unattended.
