The CAC had made a decision to put the announcement about the new Indian cricket team coach on hold as they wanted to consult team captain Virat Kohli.

He was among five candidates interviewed by the CAC on Monday to fill the vacant position, along with Indians Virender Sehwag and Lalchand Rajput, Australian Tom Moody and Englishman Richard Pybus.

Has he ever coached a team?: He was team India director before Anil Kumble was selected for the portfolio by the same Cricket Advisory Committee.

The backroom staff comprising Ravi Shastri (head coach), Rahul Dravid (overseas batting coach) and Zaheer Khan (bowling coach) is rather unique.

As well as Shastri's appointment, the BCCI have also named Zaheer Khan as the country's bowling consultant while Rahul Dravid will be the overseas batting consultant.

A decision by India's cricket board to allow Shastri to interview via Skype while on holiday at the time angered Ganguly, who complained publicly about the selection process.

China sends troops to first overseas naval base in Djibouti
Some members would be stationed at ports China operates in Djibouti and Gwadar in southwest Pakistan , the report had said. The United States , France, Japan, Italy and Spain already have bases there, and Saudi Arabia is now building one.

This is not the first time that Shastri will be taking the over the reins of the India Cricket Team and if past instance is anything to go by, the cricket fans are in for a thrilling ride once again. An email from BCCI at 11 pm on Tuesday confirmed the appointments.

While Shastri was clear in his choice of going with tried and tested Bharat Arun, who was in the team during his last stint as team director.

Shastri was all set to get an extension previous year when Anil Kumble threw his hat in the ring and Shastri despite a great performance was dumped. Dravid, who had been among the most technically sound Indian batsmen, has been coaching the junior teams.

The Team Indian Coaching drama culminated on Tuesday with the Indian cricket board's Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) naming Ravi Shastri the new coach of the Indian men's cricket team.

'Mr Khan is a contemporary cricketer who assumed the mentoring role to a young fast bowling unit even during his playing days with India.

Lack of trust: It is also being spoken in cricketing circles that the CAC did not want him but because they did not have a ful-proof backup hence Ravi landed up with the job. He repeated that success with the Under-19 team, guiding them to the final of the 2016 World Cup in Bangladesh, where they lost to West Indies.
