The US State Department has approved a $3.9 billion Patriot missile sale to Romania, a deal which is likely to anger neighboring Russian Federation.
In the maneuvers, 500 soldiers and 30 air defense systems from Great Britain, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland and the United States were activated. "This notice of a potential sale is required by law and does not mean the sale has been concluded".
The Pentagon's Defense Security Cooperation Agency said in a statement on Tuesday that the sale will boost the defensive capabilities of the Romanian military.
Under the possible deal, Romania will also get equipment for communications, tools, test, training and support, prime movers, generators, technical documentation, spare and fix parts, personnel training and full technical support.
