Cindy made landfall in the pre-dawn hours between Cameron, Louisiana and Port Arthur, Texas.

The Shoals is expected to receive a heavy dose of rainfall today from the remnants of Tropical Storm Cindy, but appears to have escaped the severe weather the storm brought other areas of the state.

"Regardless it is the rain, if anything we have to watch out for with (Tropical Storm) Cindy", meteorologist Matt Devitt said.

Tropical Storm Cindy is now a tropical depression.

At 10 a.m. CDT Thursday, Cindy was about 165 miles (265 kilometers) northwest of Morgan City and moving to the north at 13 mph (20 kph).

A few tornadoes are possible through tonight from the lower MS and Tennessee Valley regions to the central Gulf Coast. Some areas could see up to a foot of rain.

Heavy rainfall is still in the forecast for states along Cindy's latest path toward central Tennessee, where it is expected to arrive Friday.

Cindy's remnant circulation and its moisture will get absorbed by a cold front marching toward the East Coast on Friday and Saturday, producing areas of heavy rain along the way. "This is about inland as well so everybody needs to have heads up and be alert to the rising water". They also say surveillance cameras are going up to provide security for the area.

Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 70 miles to the southeast and southwest of the center.

There were numerous reports of waterspouts and short-lived tornadoes spawned by the storm. The warm weather is accompanied by a slight chance of storms.

In Tennessee, Memphis Light Gas and Water reported that as many as 10,000 customers were without power Friday morning, amid local reports of heavy rain, gusting winds and some morning traffic snarls.
