According to a report in the New York Times, Uber's five major investors had demanded that the chief executive resign immediately and made their demand in a letter that was delivered to Kalanick.

The ouster of Travis Kalanick may signal that Silicon Valley must rethink its love affairs with tech founders, Uber investor Steve Vassallo said Wednesday.

Uber has faced ongoing scrutiny over allegations of workplace harassment, a criminal probe into its attempts to evade regulators, a lawsuit over trade secret theft brought by Waymo (its competitor in the self-driving auto industry), and a lawsuit brought by a woman who alleges her medical files were improperly shared by Kalanick and other executives. His large stake in the company keeps him on Uber's board of directors - the same board that will search for his and his team's successors.

She predicts Kalanick's successor might be someone unexpected, someone seasoned and, notably, someone with a "calming presence" - again, because Uber's turnaround will be not financial, but cultural. Earlier in February 2017, a former engineer released a detailed complaint concerning sexual harassment within the company.

Uber was under pressure in recent months as it was exposed this year as an unfriendly workplace with sexual harassment and discrimination.

Nevertheless, sources say Uber directors, Huffington especially, are increasingly convinced that a woman would be ideally suited to fix Uber's mess.

Virat Kohli opens up about Anil Kumble's resignation
On Tuesday, Former Indian Captain Anil Kumble stepped down as the Head Coach of Indian cricket team and in an official statement. Gavaskar said the episode would send out the wrong message as the Indian board set about finding Kumble's successor.

The company, he said, could still thrive under the right CEO — a visionary like Kalanick but someone who can also bring a more grown-up work culture. Just last week, Kalanick had announced that he was taking an indefinite leave of absence, although we now know that he's relinquishing the CEO title.

The problems for Kalanick started earlier this year after a former Uber engineer alleged sexual harassment at the company.

Even some of Kalanick's staunchest allies have found fault with how Uber has been run. "We have failed to build some of the systems that every company needs to scale successfully", Camp wrote.

Kalanick's resignation was at the request, or demand, of the company's investors.

In total, they have about 40% of Uber's voting power. Nothing did more damage to Kalanick's reputation than Uber's response to a reported rape in India; an underling of Kalanick's obtained the victim's medical records in hope of proving she was faking her claim to hurt Uber and help a competing service. Nightfall of dialog, Kalanick consented to leave.
