Chauncey Billups, who lead the Detroit Pistons to an National Basketball Association championship in 2004, is interested in taking over as general manager of Dan Gilbert's Cleveland Cavaliers, Cleveland.com reports. It was truly remarkable what Griffin accomplished in his three years as GM, completely overhauling a roster while building Cleveland's first championship team in franchise history.
It's a hard philosophical question that may have been at the heart of the dispute between GM David Griffin and owner Dan Gilbert, leading to the former's departure from the organization.
Now Griffin is the former general manager of the Cavaliers after the team announced Monday that his contract will not be renewed when it expires June 30.
Barely even 12 hours after news that Griffin would not be retained by the Cavaliers, there were reports the team had interest in former All-Star guard Chauncey Billups, who has been working with ESPN as an National Basketball Association analyst, and is good friends with Tyronn Lue.
Cleveland's new GM will have to improve a talented but top-heavy roster that includes a lot of aging players who lack athleticism and, most importantly, make staying with the Cavs enticing to James, who is nearly certain to opt out of his contract and become a free agent next summer. But he and Griffin's vision for the future didn't align and they mutually agreed to separate.
At the moment, Cleveland has no picks in that draft, but it does appear to have a need for a roster shake-up, given what appeared to a clear talent disparity during its 4-1 Finals loss to the Warriors.
Facebook has a new mission
Zuckerberg and the Facebook team believe one of the ways to encourage community building is through the platform's Groups feature. In an exclusive interview with CNN , Zuckerberg said he realizes that Facebook needs to do more than just connect people.
"If no one appreciated you Griff I did". Just last week, Gilbert had said he was happy with the direction of the team and didn't envision sweeping changes.
Cavs assistant GM Trent Redden, whose contract runs through June 30, also will not return next season.
Griffin did all he could to please Gilbert, but there didn't seem to be much reciprocation. Griffin was named the permanent GM in May 2014 and his first moves were hiring David Blatt to coach and drafting Andrew Wiggins.
A lot of Griffin's deals involved acquiring veteran players late in their careers for the minimum salary or trade exceptions.
And it was in January when James took to Twitter to suggest that he needed the Cleveland front office to bring in some extra help if the club was going to have a legitimate chance at a repeat.
