PM Sharif has denied any wrongdoing over his family allegedly using offshore companies to buy luxury flats in a posh London neighbourhood, and has said his family wealth was acquired legally.

"Rehman Malik appeared before the JIT, recorded his statement regarding alleged money laundering through Hudaibiya Paper Mills and presented his report that was also sent by him to then President Rafiq Tarar in September 1988, seeking a high level inquiry against then Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif", the sources said.

The PPP leader said that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chief Imran Khan was taking credit of the ongoing investigations, but he might have forgotten that it was Rehman Malik who had "prepared the pitch for this match back in the 1990s".

The JIT comprises members from the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), Military Intelligence, Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP), State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) and the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).

He was investigating Nawaz Sharif for corruption during the second government of Benazir Bhutto in the mid-1990s while being in the FIA.

Earlier on reaching the Federal Judicial Academy, he had said during a media talk that he would do justice today with the nation as well as his profession.

"My critics were predicting that I would not come from overseas to testify before the JIT but I am here now".

Rehman Malik is now a member of the Senate for the second time in a row from the PPP-Parliamentarians.

Senator Rehman Malik on Friday appeared before the Panama papers case Joint Investigation Team (JIT) to record his statement.

The JIT headed by FIA's additional director general Wajid Zia had earlier rejected Safdar's plea to reschedule his appearance before it for he was planning a foreign trip and directed him to appear on June 24.

He also carried briefcases, claiming that they were full of proofs.

The Supreme Court has already directed the JIT to complete its investigations within the stipulated time period i.e. 60 days and submit a final report on July 10.
