Donald Trump rages on Twitter over 'sad' Russian investigation, demands proof

US President Donald Trump attacked what he called a "phony story" on Thursday after a report that he is under investigation for possible obstruction of justice by the special counsel probing alleged Russian meddling in the 2016 US presidential election and possible collusion with the Trump campaign.

Mr Trump previously claimed he was the victim of a "witch hunt" in May after Mr Mueller, a former FBI director, was appointed to lead an investigation into his campaign's alleged ties to Russian Federation.

The nine memos Comey wrote about his conversations with Trump have become the subject of intense interest following a bombshell New York Times report on the contents of one memo that revealed Trump requested Comey to stop investigating former national security adviser Michael Flynn.

The Trump administration and its allies are firing back at the torrent of leaks surrounding Special Counsel Robert Mueller's Russian Federation probe, suggesting the anonymous sources tied to these reports can not be trusted - while calling into question the Mueller team's neutrality. It was not known whether the Federal Bureau of Investigation was the source of the information in the Post's report. Then Trump asked Comey to make a public statement to that effect.

"The FBI leak of information regarding the president is outrageous, inexcusable and illegal", said Mark Corallo, Kasowitz's spokesman.

CNN is suing the Justice Department for copies of fired FBI Director James Comey's personal memos on his interactions with President Donald Trump.

Legal experts believe that one of the reasons why the Courts threw out MGM's lawsuit was because it was filed too soon. The Connecticut tribes have expressed a desire to have their East Windsor facility open before then.

A spokesman for Mueller's team declined to comment on Wednesday.

For months - President Trump made it known that he's not personally under investigation - but now it appears - that could be changing. James Comey's firing is part of this scandal, but there's more to it than that - as you can see in my lengthy timeline of the events at the heart of the obstruction of justice investigation.

It stands to reason that the circumstances surrounding Comey's firing would now be at the center of Mueller's query. When Comey testified last week, he also gave the committee and Mueller a document that involved Comey taking notes of his communications with President Trump.

Trump was strongly critical of some of Comey's testimony but said Comey had vindicated him by saying while he was at the agency, Trump was not the subject of the FBI's Russian Federation probe.

Mueller's investigative team has expanded in recent weeks.

Justice Department policy is that a sitting president can not be indicted by a grand jury, the Post also reported Wednesday. Attention is focused on the question of obstruction simply because so much of Trump's campaign to deep-six the investigation has been conducted openly, at full volume.
