The Belleville man who opened fire on Congress members as they practiced for a charity baseball game Wednesday morning apparently was living out of a cargo van and kept mostly to himself. Her daughter and a 2-year-old grandchild had moved in with the Hodgkinsons before that, she said, and her husband may have left because he wanted "a break from it".
Sanders said, "Violence of any kind is unacceptable in our society and I condemn this action in the strongest possible terms".
Others say things like this just don't happen where they are from.
Hodgkinson told reporters that she and her husband were married for 30 years before he was killed in a shootout with police on Wednesday. The FBI said he was in Alexandria, Virginia, where the shooting took place, since March. "I don't deserve this, my daughters don't deserve this", the shooter's wife added.
One woman I spoke to who lives in that area, Marilyn Blaha, said she knew him professionally from years ago, says her brother was still friends with him.
"I am sickened by this despicable act", Bernie Sanders said.
Officials say James T. Hodgkinson wounded House Rep. Steve Scalise and others Wednesday morning. Scalise remains in critical condition, though doctors said Friday his vital signs have stabilized.
Company offering shocked Pres. Trump one-piece swimsuit
While another one quipped, "If I wanted to look like a disgusting POS at the pool id just wear a two piece". The swimsuit "contours your form and is meant to flatter", the company said on the website.
Suzanne Hodgkinson told reporters gathered outside her Belleville home Thursday afternoon that she "couldn't believe it" when she heard about the shooting.
"Everyone on that field is a public servant", Trump said, his tone somber, America's acrimonious politics set aside for the moment. Here's what we know so far about those who were injured in the attack.
Kristina Scrimshaw, a bartender at the Pork Barrel BBQ restaurant a few blocks from the shooting scene, said Hodgkinson had become something of a regular in recent weeks.
Once Trump won the election, Hodgkinson continued his protests, moving to Washington D.C, where he lived out of his auto so he could continue the fight, ABC New reports. "I despise the way they have bought our politicians and twisted our laws to their benefit".
"I've had enough", she said.
Despite the shooting, the annual congressional baseball game will go ahead Thursday as planned at Nationals Park.
James Hodgkinson had a history of domestic violence and also a long list of minor offenses in his home county, most of which were tossed out, according to the AP. The county that it's in, St. Clair County, is politically purple.
