Israel has begun construction of the first new settlement in the occupied West Bank in 25 years, with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu calling it an "honour" to build the illegal outpost in defiance of worldwide law.
Netanyahu had vowed to build a new settlement toreplace Amona, which was destroyed in February after Israel's top court ruled it was illegally built on private Palestinian land.
"Today, ground works began, as I promised, for the establishment of the new community for the residents of Amona", he declared.
Jason Greenblatt - US President Donald Trump's worldwide negotiations representative - met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Jerusalem on Tuesday, but remained tight-lipped as to the substance of their discussions.
Most countries and the United Nations view settlements that Israel has built on land captured in the June 1967 Middle East war as illegal.
The settlement projects are at various stages in the planning process and the units are located in a number of settlements across the West Bank.
Mladenov quoted Netanyahu as saying that "there will never be a government that is more pro-settlement than our government".
Daghlas said the razing of the said lands comes following an Israeli governmental decision last March to seize around 977 dunums of land to build a new settlement.
"Those who want to make it harder rather than easier to make peace, whether by their statements or their actions, must be prevented from subverting the chances for peace", the official said. The settlements are considered illegal under worldwide law, though Israel disputes this.

Israeli authorities say most of the Palestinians killed were carrying out knife, gun or car-ramming attacks.
Around 400,000 Israelis now live in West Bank settlements, among some 2.8 million Palestinians.
"Such construction continues to distance us from the only way to end the Israeli-Palestinian conflict - a two-state solution".
