Doctors plan a news conference on campus later Thursday.
The doctors said they did not find any evidence of botulism and that Warmbier has been in a state of "unresponsive wakefulness"- unable to understand his surroundings or move.
He is breathing on his own, his vital signs are stable and there are no signs of infection or dysfunction with his major organs - except his brain.
"That's not my objective right now", he said.
"He shows no signs of understanding language", Dr. Daniel Kanter said, "or responding to verbal commands".
Fred Warmbier said he was stunned when told of his son's condition one week ago.
According to scans taken after he arrived at the Cincinnati Medical Center earlier this week, there was no sign that he was physically abused during his detention, his doctors said.
He stressed there was no reason for #North Korea to deny his son top medical care and he doesn't understand why they kept Otto's condition a secret. Warmbier's family has said they believe that confession was coerced.
During the press conference - which was held at Wyoming High School, Otto Warmbier's alma mater - Otto's father, Fred Warmbier, noted the family has doubts about North Korea's version of events. North Korea reportedly told the USA that Warmbier contracted botulism poisoning and fell into a coma soon after his March 2016 trial, in which he confessed to stealing a propaganda poster from a hotel.
Iron worker Randy Bryce running against Paul Ryan
Republican Paul Nehlen last week said he was challenging Ryan in the GOP primary after losing to him by 68 points previous year . There are probably a decent amount of people in the United States right now who want Paul Ryan to not be a congressman anymore .
North Korea sentenced Warmbier to 15 years of hard labor for stealing a banner as a joke.
His father, Fred Warmbier, said his son was "brutalized" while in North Korea and he doesn't believe the North Korean's explanation about what exactly happened to his son. Three Americans remain in custody. They say they're relieved their son is back in Cincinnati in the arms of those who love him but are angry he was brutally treated for so long.
Diplomat Dennis Rodman, who is now in North Korea, declined to comment Tuesday on Warmbier's condition or that of three other Americans still being detained.
USA doctors said they found no evidence of active botulism, a rare, serious illness caused by contaminated food or a dirty wound. "I think the results speak for themselves".
Warmbier's full interview will air Thursday night on Fox News. He said he and his wife, Cindy, only learned of their son's condition last week.
Warmbier is from Cincinnati, but was attending the University of Virginia when he was detained in North Korea in January of 2016.
UC doctors received copies of brain MRI images from medical officials in North Korea, Kanter said. Joy at his release was mixed with concern over his condition.
"I knelt down by his side and I hugged him and I told him I missed him and I was so glad that he made it home", Fred Warmbier said.
