Bhubaneswar: A day after announcing his support to NDA's presidential candidate Ram Nath Kovind, Odisha chief minister and Biju Janata Dal president Naveen Patnaik on Tuesday said his party would continue to maintain its fight against the Central negligence.

West Bengal Governor Keshari Nath Tripathi will discharge the functions of the Governor of Bihar, in addition to his own duties, it said. K R Narayanan was the country's first Dalit president. "Various permutation and combination are being looked at", a Left leader said and maintained that the Congress camp has been insisting on fielding a leader with Congress background - like Mr Shinde, former Union Home Minister and ex-Chief Minister of Maharashtra and Meira Kumar, the former Lok Sabha Speaker. "After our support, I do not think it will be hard for the BJP to get him elected", Thackeray told reporters at his residence "Matoshree" in Mumbai. However, when it came to his party allegiance, Kovind was quite vehement about projecting BJP as the only party that will "help" Dalits. The most important thing is that the BJP has a majority.

The leaders of the Opposition will meet on Thursday to decide their candidate. "He has a nice personality". The meeting was hosted by Shiv Sena Chief Uddhav Thackeray at his Bandra residence.

It extended warnings for the storm westward to High Island, Texas , and of heavy rainfall across most portions of the Gulf Coast. This method of naming also allows the NHC to issue tropical storm watches and warnings before a storm is named.

Earlier, Shiv Sena had refrained from spelling out any name for the presidential candidate or taking a stand for Ram Nath Kovind. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and state BJP president Raosaheb Danve were present too. Kovind, 71, has been a Supreme Court lawyer and was president of the BJP's SC/ST Morcha from 1998 to 2002, The Telegraph had reported in 2015. If all goes well for the BJP in the next one month, Kovind will nearly certainly emerge as a victor on July 20, 2017 when India gets its new President at the Rashtrapati Bhavan. The Bihar Chief Minister is known to take a line different from other political parties as was reflected on the demonetisation decision.

With the TRS (2%), AIADMK (5.39%), BJD (2.99%) and YSR Congress (1.53%) already pledging support to the NDA candidate, this goes up to 60.84%.

Questioning the BJP's motive behind Kovind's nomination, Shiv Sena president Uddhav Thackeray had yesterday said his party would not back the former Bihar Governor in case his candidature was aimed at garnering Dalit votes. It had backed Congress nominees - Pratibha Patil and Pranab Mukherjee - in the last two presidential elections.
