Russian Federation ends safe flights over Syria deal with US

The Iranian-made drone was downed today, just days after a USA warplane shot down a Syrian government fighter jet in the country's north.

Russian Federation said Monday it was suspending its cooperative mechanism with the U.S.in response to the downing of the Syrian warplane and threatened to shoot down enemy aircraft over Syrian government-held territory in the west.

The news comes after a US Navy fighter jet shot down a Syrian warplane on Sunday.

Over the weekend, the US took out a military jet belonging to the Syrian military, a Russian ally.

Despite the fact that it was the first time that the USA -led coalition had taken down a Syrian warplane, incidents such as these but on a smaller scale have been increasing. Speaking in Washington on Monday, Joint Chiefs of Staff chairman Gen. Joseph Dunford says talks, not "hyperbole", are needed. "An incident occurred. We have to work through the incident".

"This is the same location where another pro-regime UAV dropped munitions near Coalition forces before it was shot down, June 8", the USA military says.

"It doesn't look like anyone now intends to deliberately escalate further, but when you've got these little skirmishes. the risk is that you can end up in an escalation by accident", said Sam Heller, a Syria expert at The Century Foundation.

Russia, an ally of President Bashar al-Assad, issued a further warning to the United States after the jet was hit.

US, Russia, Iran draw new red lines in Syria
The ministry on Monday said it suspended cooperation with the usa on deconfliction zones following the Su-22 shootdown. The Syrian army said the jet was brought down while flying a mission against Isis.

"There is, therefore, a real risk of escalation, especially if, unlike in western Syria, the Americans insist on backing up their Syrian allies on the ground and there is no deal with Assad", he said.

Coalition forces use the area - just northeast of the Jordanian border - as a training and staging area for attacks against IS.

Russian Federation has moved nuclear-capable ballistic missiles to Kaliningrad, putting some European capitals in strike range. The Iranian drone that was shot down Tuesday was outside of the deconfliction area, the official said.

It was an Iranian-made Shahed 129 and was thought to be armed and in firing range of U.S. troops.

The Coalition's mission is to defeat ISIS in Iraq and Syria.

A US fighter shot down the Syrian SU-22 plane after Syrian aircraft made their second bombing run against Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) allied with the USA near Taqba.

The U.S. also has special operations forces and advisers embedded with the SDF, raising the stakes in the fight for the northern city. The U.S. has conducted three airstrikes over the past month against those forces as they entered the deconfliction zone and moved towards At Tanf.

Another front is shaping up on the ground below, with Assad's forces, which are also battling the Islamic State group, reaching the Iraqi border in the distant east. Look instead for vehicle bombs, ground ambushes and small-scale, regular attacks against our forces and those we back in eastern Syria.
