Jared Kushner, Mr Trump's son-in-law and adviser, said the administration wanted to "unleash the creativity of the private sector to provide citizen services in a way that has never happened before".

President Donald Trump met on Monday with the heads of 18 U.S. technology companies including Apple Inc, Amazon.com Inc and Microsoft Corp, seeking their help to make the government's computing systems more efficient.

Monday's gathering was the most closely watched assemblage of tech luminaries since Trump met with industry chief executives at Trump Tower in NY in December. Palantir CEO Alex Karp said he had offered his support in private sessions, earlier in the day, about ways to tap big data in order to spot fraudulent federal spending.

The meeting also saw Apple CEO Tim Cook and Amazon founder Jeff Bezos in attendance. They hope to build a working relationship with the White House on the bipartisan issue of modernizing government. The move led Elon Musk, the leader of SpaceX and Tesla, to skip the high-profile Monday summit, after sources said he previously planned to attend.

He talked about the Trump administration's effort to modernize the systems of the federal government and how the tech industry could help.

White House spokesman Sean Spicer said the administration was focusing on technology this week.

The meeting was also notable for who didn't attend.

Nanax3 asked why Kushner's voice is a big deal when there are more important matters to discuss, such as health care.

White House officials believe the administration could save $1 trillion over the ten year by implementing substantial cost cutting on IT, improving IT, and taking advantage on the government's buying power and reducing fraud across the government.

Following the meeting Monday, the White House plans to continue its so-called "tech week" push. "I personally believe that, outside of the issues discussed at this meeting, the policies of the Trump administration are unsafe and harmful to the American public". While he sometimes spoke publicly as a businessman, and once made a quick cameo in a May interview his wife, Ivanka Trump, gave with CBS This Morning, this was the first on-camera speech Kushner gave as a member of the Trump administration. "As Trump has said, 'Who knew health care could be so hard?' Well, who knew that cloud infrastructure could be so hard?"
