London police said today that 79 people were now believed to have died in the high-rise apartment building fire.
Cundy said a criminal investigation began the day of the fire and will look at a "wide range" of issues, including the renovation project, the public housing block's management and maintenance, and fire-safety measures. We know that there are still bodies of those who died inside the building and we want to return those people to their families as soon as we possibly can."The work to search the building is challenging, but naturally could never be done quickly enough for those now having to live with the uncertainty of knowing where their loved ones are".
"Family liaison officers are supporting families, and that includes those people we know to be dead; some of those who are crucially ill and sadly those people who we have been told were in Grenfell Tower that night who we have been unable to trace".
Members of emergency services work inside the burnt out remains of the Grenfell Tower in North Kensington, London, on June 18, 2017.
London mayor Sadiq Khan acknowledged growing public anger surrounding the Grenfell Tower fire in which 58 people are presumed dead, saying the blaze was a result of "mistakes and neglect".
Police have been struggling to come up with an authoritative list of who was in the building when the fire started, making it hard to determine how many had died. The search and recovery operation in the 24-story Grenfell Tower continues, he said, adding that it has been incredibly distressing for families.
Cundy said police had now managed to get to the top of the tower and had undertaken a first visual search for victims, ahead of later painstaking searches.
Allegiant to offer $49 flights from Indy to Phoenix starting in November
The new flights were part of a 28-route expansion, "the largest-ever announcement of new service in the company's history". To obtain the discounted prices, travelers must purchase tickets by June 22 for travel by February 13, 2018.
Many residents of the building remain unaccounted for, and police said numerous remains may never be identified.
The Prime Minister also said there had been "huge frustrations" on the ground as people struggled to find information.
As the investigation began, Cundy urged missing residents who are alive and have not come forward to contact authorities to ensure their safety.
The blaze not only raised a series of questions about levels of inequality in London and British society, but also singed politics after Prime Minister Theresa May was barracked for her allegedly cold response to the tragedy.
Britain observed a moment of silence at 11 a.m. Monday in remembrance of the victims.
The tragedy has provoked a big response from nearby communities that have donated food and shelter to the victims.
