An attorney for President Trump disputed reports Sunday that Trump is under formal investigation for obstruction of justice in connection with the firing of FBI Director James Comey, despite claims to the contrary by government officials and the president's own tweets.

Sekulow also said that Trump's tweet that led people to believe he was under investigation was in response to a Washington Post story in which unnamed sources said the president was being investigated.

But after harping on it, and asking about Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, Sekulow, appearing to refer to that story again, explained the president's position.

However in an interview with Chris Wallace on "Fox News Sunday" Sekulow admitted that he doesn't actually know for certain if Trump is under investigation or not because he can't read the mind of special counsel Robert Mueller.

Painter's comments come as Trump and his allies cast doubt on Mueller's ability to conduct a fair investigation into Russia's role in the 2016 election and possible collusion between the Trump campaign and Russian Federation.

There have been multiple news reports and a tweet from Trump himself on Friday that began with: "I am being investigated".

Comey told the Senate Intelligence Committee he believes Trump fired him because he resisted the president's request to drop the Russian Federation investigation, especially as it pertained to former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn.

Unlike other leaders, Rouhani, a moderate, didn't blame foreign powers, but rather said the attacks targeted peace and democracy . Some carried pictures of Khamenei that said, "We are ready to sacrifice our blood for you".

He said, however, that Sekulow's comments could mean the White House was taking the position that no investigation exists until Mueller's team officially confirms it, disregarding media reports based on anonymous sourcing.

In all likelihood, the president is already under investigation or soon will be.

"Anyone who knows Bob Mueller knows he is choosing the best people to serve on this investigative team - people that have experience in the issues that he wants to investigate and believes need to be investigated", Schiff said.

Dianne Feinstein, the top Democrat on the Senate Judiciary Committee, has said publicly she fears Mr Trump will fire Mr Mueller and Mr Rosenstein, only five weeks after firing James Comey. At least, that's what the president has said on Twitter.

"The MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN agenda is doing very well despite the distraction of the Witch Hunt". Rosenstein told lawmakers last week that he did not see good cause to fire Mueller, and would not follow orders unless they were "lawful and appropriate". And the next day, I called [reporter] Mike Schmidt, and I told him I had additional information for him. Marco Rubio, (R- Fla.), who said he discussed the probe with Trump on Friday. King and Rubio are both members of the Senate Intelligence Committee, which is running an investigation that partially parallels the Justice Department probe being run by Mueller.

"I will leave it there", said Todd, ending the segment.

The source familiar with the Mueller probe told Reuters that Mueller was also examining whether Trump or others tried to interfere with the investigation. Angus King of ME, an independent who caucuses with the Democrats.
