Deputy AG Rosenstein May Recuse Himself from Russia Investigation

On Friday, Trump tweeted, "I am being investigated for firing the FBI Director by the man who told me to fire the FBI Director!" Trump has also told friends and others that a "witch hunt" is being conducted against him.

Sekulow told Wallace that Trump's firing of FBI Director James Comey last month was "based on numerous events, including recommendations from his attorney general and the deputy attorney general's office". There has been no notification from the special counsel's office that the president is under investigation.

Cullen is a former federal prosecutor who has long ties to former FBI Director James Comey.

The development comes a day after the daily reported that Mueller had extended his probe into determining whether the President tried to obstruct justice by suggesting to top intelligence and law enforcement officials that they end the Russian Federation investigation.

"They made up a phony collusion with the Russians story, found zero proof, so now they go for obstruction of justice on the phony story". The president complained the probe is unfair and wondered why his defeated Democratic opponent was not getting the same scrutiny.

The president has denied that he has any nefarious ties to Russian Federation and has also disputed that he's attempted to block the investigation into his campaign's possible role in Russia's election-related hacking.

ABC News reported on Friday that Rosenstein has said privately he may need to recuse himself from matters relating to the Russian Federation probe because he could become a witness in the investigation.

The tweets came shortly after Rosenstein issued his unusual statement that appeared to be warning about the accuracy of such reports.

Several investigations could pose trouble for Trump.

A Trump confidant said this week the president had considered firing Mueller.

Rosenstein pledged this week that he would maintain the integrity of the investigation and saw no reason to fire Mueller, despite reports that Trump was considering such a move.

The widened Russian Federation probe could have far-reaching repercussions for Trump's presidency, transforming his closest aides into witnesses and sucking even more political oxygen out of the West Wing.

Moscow has denied any interference. "Witch Hunt", the president wrote in a Friday tweet. "Sad!" he wrote in one post.

The transition official said the organization has also separately asked the General Services Administration to preserve records from the Trump transition that were transferred to its facilities after the inauguration.

In recent weeks, there has been a lot of reporting that Trump has grown frustrated that there is a "Russia cloud" hovering over his presidency and wants to find a way to remove it.

Kushner's attorney, Jamie Gorelick, told the Washington Post "we don't know what this report refers to".
