President Donald Trump confirmed Friday he is under federal investigation and appeared to single out a senior Justice Department official for criticism, underscoring his growing frustration with the persistent focus on Russia's involvement in the 2016 election and possibly his campaign.
Sen. Richard Burr, R-N.C., right, chairman of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, and Vice Chairman Mark Warner, D-Va., left, listen as Attorney General Jeff Sessions testifies before the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence about his role in the firing of FBI Director James Comey and the investigation into contacts between Trump campaign associates and Russian Federation, on Capitol Hill in Washington, Tuesday, June 13, 2017. He speculates that her attitude may be "more informed by the structure of presidential authority and less by unwritten norms of prosecutorial independence". Rosenstein threatened to resign after the White House cast him as a prime mover of the decision to fire Comey and suggested the president acted only on his recommendation, a person close to the White House, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the matter, told The Post last month.
Rosenstein is the man responsible for both writing the memo recommending Comey's firing and for later naming Robert Mueller as special counsel in the wide-scoping investigation into Russian meddling in the election.
The Washington Post reported Thursday that Mueller is also investigating the finances and business dealings of Jared Kushner, Trump's son-in-law and adviser.
Mr Rosenstein has said privately he may need to recuse himself from matters relating to the Russian Federation probe because he could become a witness in the investigation, ABC News reported on Friday.
All the stories about Mueller investigating Trump for possible obstruction cited anonymous sources. "That's undemocratic on its face and a blatant violation of the president's oath of office".
Cuba Denounces Trump Move To Roll Back Obama-Era Opening

Rosenstein privately acknowledged that he may need to recuse himself from the investigation, sources told ABC News this week. And Democrats and Republicans alike have criticized his use of Twitter, particularly amid the ongoing investigation into Russia's interference in the 2016 presidential election. He said this week he had not found reason to do so - making the statement in the days after Trump's friends raised the possibility that the president himself was thinking of "terminating" Mueller. Those associates include former national security adviser Michael Flynn, campaign chairman Paul Manafort, foreign policy aide Carter Page and outside adviser Roger Stone.
The Trump International Hotel, which opened last fall just down the street from the White House, took in revenue of about $20 million.
Vice President Mike Pence has also hired a private lawyer to represent his interests in the expanding probe.
US President Donald Trump speaks about the shootings in Alexandria, Virginia, from the White House in Washington, US, June 14, 2017. Rosenstein, the former U.S. Attorney for Maryland, crafted a memo laying out the case for Comey's ouster soon after assuming his role as the No. 2 official at the Justice Department. The transition, a nonprofit structurally separate from the Trump campaign, continues to operate with a small staff.
It's been another big week in the investigation into Russian meddling in the US elections.
