London tower block fire death toll climbs to 30

Protesters have stormed Kensington Town Hall in west London during a rally to demand "justice" for the victims of Wednesday's Grenfell Tower Fire.

Families searching for information about their loved ones have, meanwhile, blanketed the area near the tower with posters searching for answers.

Residents had raised concerns about the fire safety of the building prior to the blaze.

"We are in the richest borough in the United Kingdom and in this very borough we have a building where some of the poorest live and the safety measures are totally inadequate", said Mustafa Al Mansur, one of the organisers of the demonstration.

Residents also said they felt ignored by the Prime Minister in the aftermath of the fire.

Corbyn met with members of the public and was pictured hugging tearful relatives of victims near the charred building.

Anger over the causes of the fire and the government's handling of the tragedy have grown during the week.

Queen Elizabeth II, accompanied by grandson Prince William, paid a visit to the Grenfell Tower this morning where the number of missing is estimated to be around 76.

She was living on the 20th floor and became separated from her family during the blaze. "It is important to be frank - fires are still breaking out and conditions are very hard and hazardous for the emergency services in the upper levels of the building".

Britain's Press Association says around 70 people are missing.

"We hope to confirm a record tomorrow which will raise some money for the many people affected by the tragedy".

Pressed again on whether she had failed to understand the anger felt by the public, she said: "This was a awful tragedy that took place".

London police also said a criminal investigation has been launched.

London Mayor Sadiq Khan on Friday sent an open letter to May, demanding that she explain how she will support the community following the deadly fire. Now that the smoke has cleared, the public could only gape at the huge burned-out hulk in the working class, multi-ethnic neighborhood.

Up to 600 people lived in 120 apartments in the Grenfell Tower.

A tenants' group had complained for years about the risk of a fire.

A spokesperson for Merseyside Fire and Rescue said an inspection of high rises across the region is now a top priority.

"What I'm now absolutely focused on is ensuring that we get that support on the ground".
