Vermont Senator Patrick Leahy also responded to Wednesday morning's shooting via twitter, "Our prayers with all the injured".
Hodgkinson, the alleged gunman who was killed by congressional security at the venue, backed Bernie Sanders.
Trump addressed the nation less than five hours after the shooting that wounded Rep. Steve Scalise, congressional staffer Zach Barth, former congressional staffer Matt Mika, and two Capitol Police officers at a baseball field in Alexandria, Va., just outside of Washington. Scalise underwent surgery and is said to be stable, according to President Donald Trump.
In the past year, many of his posts consisted of signed petitions with titles such as: "Bernie - please run no matter what" and "Hillary Rodham Clinton should concede the nomination to Bernie Sanders;" CNN reported.

The FBI and local law enforcement officials say they haven't identified a motive for the shooting.
