Trump blasts report on obstruction probe

Deputy attorney general Rod Rosenstein, who appointed Mr Mueller last month, testified on Tuesday that he had seen no evidence of good cause to sack him.

Mr Mueller is overseeing an Federal Bureau of Investigation inquiry into Russia's alleged meddling the 2016 USA election and any Trump links to it. "#MAGA", Trump tweeted later Thursday morning.

The latest development was first carried in the Washington Post.

The report stated that Trump was angered when he learned of the relationship and made plans to dump Mueller before being convinced it would be a disastrous move.

BARRETT: Well, as you may remember last week from former FBI Director Comey's testimony, President Trump had been told for months and months that he was not under investigation. And I think, frankly, our story shows that the president is by no means out of the woods as far as the investigation goes.

The investigation into obstruction of justice reportedly began soon after Trump fired former FBI Director James Comey, who was investigating the possible Trump-Russia ties, on May 9.

Sessions' testimony did not provide any damaging new information on Trump campaign ties with Russian Federation or on Comey's dismissal, but his refusal to discuss conversations with Trump raised fresh questions about whether the White House has something to hide.

A former Republican senator, Sessions was an early supporter of Trump's presidential campaign, but sources say there has been tension between the two men in recent weeks because Trump was annoyed that Sessions recused himself from the Russian Federation probe.

Consider that paragraph. And consider we are less than 150 days into Trump's presidency and this - an investigation by a special counsel who also happens to be the former FBI director - is where he finds himself. Was Comey's firing related to the FBI's Russian Federation probe?

The Post said both men refused the president's request.

"I faced great pressure because of Russian Federation". The New York Times also reported the story.

U.S. intelligence agencies concluded in a report released in January that Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered an effort to interfere in the election to help Trump in part by hacking and releasing damaging emails about Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton.

Trump was apparently bothered by reports from conservative outlets like Breitbart News linking Mueller to Comey.

Who is going to be interviewed?

Five people briefed on the interview requests, speaking on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the matter publicly, said that Daniel Coats, the current director of national intelligence, Mike Rogers, head of the National Security Agency, and Rogers's recently departed deputy, Richard Ledgett, agreed to be interviewed by Mueller's investigators as early as this week. "I will defend the integrity of that investigation".

The three were not involved in the Trump campaign but may be asked whether Mr Trump sought their help to end the Flynn inquiry.

A March 22 exchange is allegedly of potential interest to Mueller, officials told The Post.

But his legal team responded angrily.

National Security Agency Director Mike Rogers was on the Hill Monday for a similar closed-door briefing with Senate Russia investigators on whether he was pressured by Trump. When asked about a letter he wrote recommending firing Comey, Rosenstein said that Mueller could be looking into the decision-making process for the firing - and he was therefore "not at liberty to talk about that now".

But it has today been described as a "crime scene" following revelations the probe into Russia's interference in the USA election has been widened to include allegations President Donald Trump attempted to obstruct justice. "Now you're not answering questions".
