A terror suspect was "dragged" from a house by armed police and a gym where one of the terrorists worked out was searched as detectives investigating the London Bridge attack continued to focus on east London.

To make it clear; I do not intend to undermine the much more frequent and deadly terrorist attacks that happen in other places and particularly in Africa and the Middle East, however, when you live so close to the scene the emotions are naturally more intense.

Eight people died when three terrorists drove a van into pedestrians on London Bridge on Saturday night before stabbing people randomly in Borough Market.

"He was arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the commission, preparation or instigation of act".

The potential for large vehicles to inflict mass casualties was laid bare in horrifying fashion previous year when a lorry drove through crowds gathered to celebrate Bastille Day in Nice, killing 86 people and injuring scores more.

The three attackers were wearing fake suicide belts consisting of plastic water bottles wrapped in grey duct tape. The Metropolitan Police said the package was not terror-related in the end.

"We've been working round the clock to understand what these men did in the lead-up to the attack but we need to know more about these unusual knives".

Butt hired the van used in the attack from a B&Q store in Romford in the morning of the attack, it said.

As investigators hunted for potential accomplices linked to the three attackers on Thursday, voters cast ballots in a general election that has spotlighted security concerns.

Appearing on Sky News yesterday, he was asked if he is a man of his word, to which he replied: "Well indeed I am". As it turns out, Labour polled at 40.3% meaning that Goodwin was going to have to literally eat his words.

Petrol bombs were also found littered alongside the van used to run down victims on London Bridge, suggesting the plot was meant to be more destructive.

"When I come back to Butt trying to get hold of a 7.5 ton lorry - the effect could have been even worse", he said.

In a statement, the Metropolitan Police said forensic officers examining the white rental van found "13 wine bottles with rags wrapped around them and believed to be filled with a flammable liquid", as well as two blowtorches. The office chairs were possibly placed in the van by the attackers to convince friends and family they were in the process of moving furniture.

The three, who were not connected to the weekend attack on London Bridge, are being questioned at a south London police station.

"Some of the people who were here on Saturday night are still a bit fragile", said John Vincent, the CEO and founder of Leon.

"I urge all Londoners to do what they can to support this appeal and show the world that we are city that will never be divided or cowed by terrorism". It was here that an English-language version of the Quran was discovered, which lay open on a page which described martyrdom, along with swatches of cloth closely resembling that used in the petrol bombs.

Haydon said since last Saturday they had taken 262 statements from people from 19 different countries and numerous global inquiries were ongoing relating to the attackers and the victims. A total of five people are in custody, though none has been charged.

Scotland Yard wants more witnesses to come forward and is also appealing to companies who hire out vans to report any suspicious activity.
