"He is right constitutionally to say that if she is unable to form a government, it is his duty as leader of the opposition to attempt to form an alternative government", Ms Chakrabarti added.
"If the government, if the prime minister is dependent on the DUP then all sorts of back-room deals will be done which could impact on the Good Friday process - could put it in jeopardy and could destroy confidence amongst other parties".
"We welcome this commitment, which can provide the stability and certainty the whole country requires as we embark on Brexit and beyond", he said.
