The Republican Steering Committee on Thursday chose Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-SC) to lead the high-profile House Oversight and Government Reform Committee.

If confirmed by the full Republican Conference, Gowdy would become a leading figure in the probe into President Donald Trump's decision to fire FBI Director James Comey, Politico reported.

"The former prosecutor is best known for his role leading the House select committee that investigated the 2012 attack on the USA consulate in Benghazi", the Hill reported, noting that Gowdy led the panel for almost two years.

As chair of the House Oversight Committee, Gowdy will lead the investigation into whether or not former Trump administration National Security Advisor Michael Flynn broke any laws.

A source familiar with the vote by the Republican steering committee told CNN that Gowdy will replace outgoing chairman Utah Republican Rep. Jason Chaffetz who is stepping down from Congress June 30.

An egg a day may spurt growth in kids
According to the World Health Organization, 155 million children under the age of five are stunted, or too short for their age. "Well, you should give him one daily as it increases growth and reduce stunting by 47 per cent, claims a study".

"Trey Gowdy possesses the experience and deep commitment to transparency and accountability necessary to be the House's next Oversight chairman", Ryan said in his own statement. "The Benghazi panel played a key role in helping uncover that Hillary Clinton used a private email server while Secretary of State".

S.C. Republicans were quick to praise Gowdy's selection. Tim Scott, R-Charleston, said in a statement.

He said Gowdy is the "right person" to take over his position.

"Trey is tough-minded but evenhanded and will be fair but firm with wayward government employees", U.S. Rep. Jeff Duncan, a Republican from Laurens, added.

Gowdy is a former federal prosecutor. "His background as a skilled and effective prosecutor perfectly prepares him for this post". "He has proven that he will always look out for taxpayers and seek answers from the bureaucracy". In addition, Mueller will look at charges that Trump administration officials coordinated with Russian Federation and other matters related to this investigation, like Comey's accusations that Trump urged him to drop the Flynn investigation. "Trey has my absolute confidence, and I know he will do an outstanding job".
