Mr Macron, who won the second round of France's presidential contest on Sunday with 66.1 per cent of the vote, needs to quickly transform his political movement into a vehicle capable of winning a majority or at least garnering enough seats in Parliament to govern or form a coalition. Macron has promised that half of those candidates will be new to elected politics, as he was before his victory. It will release its list of 577 candidates on Thursday.

Benjamin Griveaux, the spokesman of the En Marche! movement, told the Europe 1 broadcaster on Tuesday that the procedure for declaring one's intention to run was the same for everyone and that Valls' candidature had not yet been confirmed by the party's responsible committee. Hassan A. Mourad took to Facebook to post a comparative image between Macron as an embryo in 1977 and the current Algerian President, Abdulaziz Bou Teflika, now 80, but 40 at the time of Macron's birth year.
