Alonso jets off to Indy for Monday practice

Alonso felt his time behind Kvyat - almost one third of the race distance - underlined how Honda is compromising McLaren's opportunities on Sundays.

The engine of his MCL32 let out a lot of oil before returning the soul in a thick cloud of smoke, as he began his first lap on the track.

Alonso is missing the May 28 Monaco Grand Prix, Formula One's showpiece, to compete at Indianapolis in a Honda-powered McLaren Indy auto run by the Andretti Autosport team. "There will be six cars (in F1) that will be unbeatable for the next few races".

Alonso has yet to finish a race in 2017 and despite new upgrades for the Spanish Grand Prox he was only able to complete two corners in Barcelona before his vehicle failed again.

"It was my decision", Alonso said.

The drip turned into a gush of yellowish liquid when a crane lifted the McLaren away from the track.

"What can you do?" "It was tricky for us", Hamilton said.

The Spaniard, who secured his first race finish of the season, conceded that, given his car's top speed, it would have been hard to keep his position anyway. 'Keeping the body active, ' he wrote, standing by his trainer Edoardo Bendinelli with tennis balls to hand. "I preferred to do some sport, so that if the auto was ready I would be, too", Alonso said. "I still hope to be happy in the second half of the year". But that is what Fridays are for.

"Yeah it was [a good weekend] in general, everything was positive", Alonso told Sky Sports.

Alonso dropped down the order and eventually finished in 12th position, the first time he has reached the chequered flag this season.

Donald Trump: I have absolute right to share information with Russia
Mark Warner of Virginia, the Democratic vice chair of the Senate Intelligence Committee, had similarly chiding words. Chris Coons, D-Del., said had he just read the Post story and, "if true, that would be genuinely shocking".

McLaren-Honda boss Zak Brown said he accepted Fernando Alonso's challenge to give him a race winning auto for next year, and had no concerns at him leaving the circuit to play tennis after another engine failure.

That would already have been a satisfying final outcome but in Q3 he beat Sergio Perez, Felipe Massa and Esteban Ocon to take seventh place, behind only the Mercedes, Ferrari and Red Bull drivers.

Mercedes' Valtteri Bottas, who won the race in Russian Federation, was third, followed by Raikkonen, setting the stage for another duel between the front-running teams.

"There is the opportunity this weekend to do a one-two and pull away from the Ferraris", Hamilton said.

"I think he will sit down some time in the summer and think 'Do they really have a path to give me a winning auto in 2018?'" So I don't know. "It looks like it will be between them and us", Vettel said.

"I drive to support the team, and drive as fast as I can, but the problem is not entirely mine".

On the other side of the garage, Stoffel had a much more productive day. "It is a question of getting it right".

"Now is a busy period and with the Indy 500 thing", he added, referring to his testing for McLaren-Honda-Andretti at Indianapolis.

After smooth driving early, gusting winds gave drivers trouble in the afternoon.

Alonso's MCL32 auto broke down at just the second corner. "It's like juggling balls in the wind".
