The new modification aims to bring the virtual reality experience to the classic shooter game Half-Life 2 that was first released in 2004. In an article on Road To VR, the developers promise full motion controller support, a 3D GUI made for VR, realistic weapon interactions, and updated effects, textures, models, and maps. But this mod can not be played on anything but old development kit headsets. The community project has been in development since 2013. In order to add VR support, the mods for Half-Life 2 VR rebuilt the weapons so players could wield them and see them from various angles. Now that same team says the VR remaster been resurrected for Oculus Rift and HTC Vive. According to those behind the project, and a report over at Roadtovr.com, "The Source engine is DirectX 9 only which does not allow texture sharing and is not supported by any of the new VR APIs".
