A sheriff's officer and two others died in a rural Arkansas shooting on Thursday and a suspect was then arrested after a five-hour standoff with law enforcement, Arkansas State Police said.
At 7:18 a.m. Thursday, Mainhart performed a traffic stop on a vehicle that was related to a disturbance call at a home on Gum Springs Road, police said. Mainhart had reportedly pulled over a vehicle he believed to be associated with a disturbance call when he was shot and killed. The suspect, James Michael Bowden, 32, took shelter in the home, about 5 miles southwest of the small city of Dardanelle after the deputy was shot, police said.
Two bodies, both females, were found at the Gum Springs Road home, Sadler said.
The State Police said the suspect had been captured, but it didn't say how or identify the person.
During the course of the traffic stop the deputy was fatally wounded.
Arkansas' governor has ordered the state flag to be flown at half-staff in memory of a sheriff's deputy who was killed along with two other people.

Bowden is jailed on three counts of capital murder, state police Director Bill Bryant said. Sadler said Bowden let one female hostage go during the standoff and she is being questioned.
Bowden's father, who is also named James, indicated that the family was shocked by his actions, noting that this sort of behavior was not typical for his son.
Bowden is now being held at the Conway County Jail.
Mainhart had spent five years in the Yell County Sheriff's Office, and has been a law enforcement officer for more than 20 years, according to an ASP press release.
The state police issued a news release Friday identifying them as 61-year-old Rita Miller and 17-year-old Ciera Miller.
Gov. Asa Hutchinson said: "Our thoughts, prayers and gratitude are with the Mainhart family".
