Donald Trump was ready to fire James Comey on entering White House

White House briefings and news conferences provide both "substantive and symbolic opportunities" for journalists to question to government officials, said Jeff Mason, White House correspondent for Reuters and president of the White House Correspondents Association.

President Donald Trump admitted the FBI's probe of then-Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton's private email server helped him during the 2016 election, and added that he never would have let his opponent walk free.

A New York Times report - one that may have inspired Friday's tweet - said Comey declined to make such a pledge. Welker asked why Trump is still "leaning on" Clapper's statements as a defense.

The day after acting FBI Director Andrew McCabe contradicted a number of the Trump administration's talking points about James Comey's firing during sworn testimony, White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer refused to confirm whether Trump has confidence in McCabe. "So we can make a fast decision".

Spicer also said Trump's tweet this morning was not meant as a threat to Comey not to speak to the media.

On Twitter, Trump appeared to suggest that if Comey gave his version of contacts between them, the administration might produce tapes of conversations, although it was not clear if such tapes exist.

Mnuchin Says US Reserves Right To Be Protectionist
At both those G-20 gatherings, he refused to sign up to a longstanding explicit shunning of protectionism. Attention also focused on Trump's plans to cut United States of America corporate taxes.

"First of all, you have a level of hostility that's incredible and it's very unfair", he said.

After Trump made a decision to fire Comey, he was told by aides that Democrats would likely react positively to the news given the role many believe Comey played in Hillary Clinton's defeat past year.

"The integrity of our law enforcement agencies and their leadership is of the utmost importance to President Trump".

Acting FBI director Andrew McCabe also interviewed for the permanent post despite his repeated willingness to break from White House explanations of Mr Comey's sacking and its characterisations of the Russian Federation investigation. "I was thinking about it during this period of time", he said.

Trump, who has been preparing for his first foreign trip to the Middle East and Europe late next week, also will deliver the commencement address to the United States Coast Guard Academy in New London, Connecticut, on Wednesday. He's simply stated a fact; the tweet speaks for itself. The White House disputed that account.

Other possibilities being considered apparently include former Justice Department lawyer J. Michael Luttig, Republican congressman Trey Gowdy of Benghazi-investigation fame, and former Republican congressmember (and former FBI agent) Mike Rogers, who once chaired the House Intelligence Committee.
