Jabrill Peppers headed to OH as Cleveland Browns' first-round pick

The top of the draft was predictable: Roger Goodell got booed, then Myles Garrett was picked first by the Cleveland Browns.

The Arlington Martin alum sported a Cleveland Indians jersey with his name stitched across the back as all three of the Browns' first-round draft picks threw out the ceremonial pitch prior to the Indians' game against Seattle on Friday night. Since 1999, the Browns have utilized 26 different starting QBs, most in the National Football League in that span.

The Browns took Garrett, the obvious and safe choice at first.

On his gratitude to the Browns for selecting him in Round 1 after testing positive for a dilute sample of urine at the NFL Combine: "It was a lot of speculation about that".

"They wanted me to get some rest, but I love my guys to much to sit out and have to watch them without me", he said. More often than not, making the right picks later on has an even greater impact on the future of a franchise. I know it'll be a process, but we're all in.

Garrett's selection marks the fifth time in the past 11 years an SEC player went first overall.

The Browns on Thursday selected MI safety Jabrill Peppers with the No. 25 pick in the 2017 NFL Draft. The Chiefs moved from 27th to 10th for. a quarterback.

There had been some glimpses of what he could do, and it was no surprise that they largely came in the Champions League . The holders go into the return of their semi-final against city rivals Atletico later on Wednesday with a 3-0 advantage.

Some thought the Browns might address their quarterback problems with the first pick, but the argument for a game-changing defensive end won over.

After trading the No. 33 pick and a fourth-rounder to Green Bay, the Browns took the 6-foot-4, 245-pound Miami tight end David Njoku, an athletic playmaker who had 43 receptions for 698 yards and eight touchdowns for the Hurricanes in 2016. "We do recognize that we need a quarterback, but we're not going to chase it".

Among the players selected in the top ten was Christian McCaffrey.

In College Station, Garrett broke Jadeveon Clowney's SEC freshman sack record and followed with first-team All-America honors his final two seasons.

Cleveland ranked 31st defensively last season and was 30th in sacks with 26. So two more skill position offensive players went seventh and eighth.

He should immediately add some bite to a pass rush that accumulated only 26 sacks previous year. Perhaps the Browns or the cruel football demons that permanently haunt them will find a way to ruin him, but if that happens, history should not be revised into considering his selection a bad one.

Throw in the fact that the Browns could have gotten Clemson quarterback Deshaun Watson at No. 12, and this pick may not sit well with Browns fans.
