Shine's departure is the fourth big exit to rock Fox News since past year including Megyn Kelly's defection to NBC News where she'll host a primetime newsmagazine and daytime program, said THR.
Sean Hannity now Fox News' biggest star, gave a public endorsement of Shine before the latter resigned.
After talk of Shine's departure started last week, Fox News host Sean Hannity tweeted that Shine's departure would be "the total end" of Fox News Channel and started a hashtag #Istandwithshine. Fox also said that it was promoting two other executives, Suzanne Scott and Jay Wallace, into more prominent newsroom roles.
But yesterday's announcement came from the elder Murdoch, who noted that Jack Abernethy would remain co-president of Fox news and chief executive of Fox Television Stations.
The 86-year-old Rupert Murdoch has actively led the network as acting CEO since Ailes' departure.
In addition to Ailes, O'Reilly and now Shine, Fox has lost Megyn Kelly and Greta Van Susteren, both of whom anchored evening programmes on Fox.

While Fox officially denies rumors of Hannity's impending exit, calling the rumors "completely untrue", several sources speaking to the Daily Beast say that Hannity may end his show as soon as this week.
