The U.S. military started moving parts of the controversial THAAD anti-missile defence system to a deployment site in South Korea on Wednesday amid high tensions over North Korea's missile and nuclear programmes.
The ministry said in a statement that South Korea and the United States have made efforts to rapidly secure an operational capability of the THAAD system in preparation for what it called the nuclear and missile threats from the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK).
Though there has been global concern about the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) conducting its sixth nuclear test, Seoul's Defense Ministry recently said that "no unusual development had been detected", and the Office of the Joint Chiefs of Staff said "Our military is closely monitoring the North Korean military's movement", according to the BBC. Left unsaid by Graham was that a war today could be disastrous for US allies Japan and South Korea.
South Korea said in a statement Wednesday that unspecified parts of THAAD were installed.
A group of residents protested against move and tried to stop the equipment from being taken onto the site, clashing with police, the Yonhap news agency reported from Seongju, in the southeast of South Korea.
How large part of the U.S. missile shield was transported to the golf course has yet to be known exactly.
On March 6, two mobile launchers and part of the elements were delivered by a USA transport airplane to a US military base in South Korea. South Korea's navy is planning to hold joint naval drills with US aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson battle group, which has trained with Japanese destroyers in recent days, around the weekend.
Seoul and Washington say the sole objective of THAAD is to defend against North Korean missiles, but China is concerned the system's powerful radar can penetrate its territory and undermine its security.

U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham said he and fellow Republican John McCain had dinner with Trump on Monday and discussed North Korea.
"North Korea's unlawful weapons programs represent a clear, grave threat to U.S. national security in the United States, the ROK and Japan".
Trump has indicated he is willing to ramp up United States military pressure on North Korea while simultaneously encouraging China to use its influence on its ally, and reject bilateral diplomacy with Pyongyang.
