The crowd remained pro-Goffin for the rest of the match and Mary Carillo said that Nadal should have "gifted" his competitor the point.
Rafael Nadal said he could not have imagined he would enjoy such sustained success in the Monte-Carlo Masters, after winning the tournament for a remarkable 10th time.
As Nadal himself said though, he won't have much time to celebrate, as his bid for a matching 10th title in Barcelona, which just named their center court after him, starts on Wednesday. I am very happy to win another one. "I thought I played very, very well for a set and a half, from the start of the second set", the 12-time Grand Slam victor said.
The 14-time Grand Slam victor required just half an hour to seal the first set, winning more than double the points of his 15-seeded opponent.
This year has signalled something of a renaissance for Nadal and having lost in the final at the Australian Open, he will be desperate to add to his 14 Grand Slams at next month's French Open.
"I can not explain the feelings that I have", Nadal said. "That's what happened since the beginning of the season".
"Then it is obvious I would like to win. It's a very important day in my career".

At some point in the future it may well get built, but this has been a stark lesson in the difference between campaigning and governing.
Nadal watched smiling as each of his Monte Carlo trophy presentations over the years was played on the big screen. He failed to convert any of these but the break was inevitable next time around when Ramos-Vinolas served, as Nadal moved into a 3-1 lead after breaking at 15 in game 4.
Nadal finished the match with 21 winners and just 13 unforced errors, and his serve was never in danger, losing just 9 points in 8 service games to stay away from the break points. After the underdog saved Nadal's two champion points, his double-fault converted the No. 4 seed's third champion point into a title in a 76-minute match.
His other eight Monte Carlo titles came in a row, from 2005-12.
His first appearance in Monte Carlo was as a 16-year-old in 2003, when he beat Slovak Karol Kucera in the first round. That's the real thing.
"It's tough to believe that I am again in a final here, it is unbelievable news for me", Nadal said.
Ramos-Vinolas followed up Thursday's upset of top-seeded Andy Murray with another strong effort, registering a 6-2, 6-7 (5), 6-2 win over fifth-seeded Marin Cilic of Croatia.
Ramos-Vinolas took the first set from Pouille when he broke the 11th-seeded Frenchman to love, concluding with a smash at the net.
